Edition: Georg Baselitz

In his younger days, before German artist Georg Baselitz (born 1938) began turning his paintings upside down, he would turn the world upside down. He created a series of ‘Hero’ paintings, but they were images of homeless, soldierly types sitting in a landscape, deprived of the grand narrative.
In the new millennium, Baselitz adopted a new strategy, called Remix, repainting his old classics in new versions. The Louisiana woodcut is such a remixed Hero image, executed in the grand tradition, including all of the pain and beauty that go with it.
