Program for the International Seminar 10th October 2012
While participation is almost per definition viewed in a positive light with its promise of engaged audiences and more democratic institutions open to a plurality of voices, questions are rarely raised about what qualifies participation, which forms of participation are meaningful to whom and within which contexts.
Meet the artist Olafur Eliasson and Director of Education and Community Programs at Walker Art Center, Sarah Schultz, Learning team from Louisiana og artist from TATE as well as psychologist and author of the book ”The Psychology of Creativity”, Thea Mikkelsen. The programme is still in the making, but the seminar will offer a mix of presentations, discussions and workshops.
The background for the seminar is a summercamp for young people which was held at Louisiana in August as collaboration among four art instititutions - TATE, Stedelijk, Louisiana and Museu Serralves - all partners in the international learning project called Turbinegeneration developed by TATE. This joint summercamp had as an important aspect the idea of creating a shared case study in order to experience and exchange views on participatory practices. With this all day seminar the hope is to share and to take these discussions a step further.
The seminar is supported by Kulturstyrelsen.
